Enerven has been appointed to deliver the Balance of Plant (BoP) works for the Teebar Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a large-scale grid connected battery project in the Queensland Fraser Coast Region.
The customer
Atmos Renewables is a leading Australian renewable energy company with ownership interests in over 1.9 GW of operating and in‑construction wind, solar, and battery assets across Australia, backed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners. It has recently taken close to 1GW of CIS-backed capacity through the CIS-backed capacity through to financial close.
“It is important to Atmos to work with reputable and trusted delivery partners, and Enerven is well positioned to lead the safe and successful construction of the Teebar BESS, including supporting Atmos’ commitments to First Nations and local community stakeholders," Atmos Renewables CEO Nigel Baker.
The opportunity
Located beside the existing Powerlink’s Teebar Creek substation in Queensland’s Fraser Coast region, Teebar BESS will provide four hours of energy storage. The project will store electricity when supply is abundant and dispatch it when demand is higher, helping to support reliability and make more effective use of renewable generation.
Enerven’s scope as the BoP contractor includes the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the 400MW/1600MWh BESS facility, 275/33kV Substation and ~300-meter 275kV overhead transmission line connecting to Powerlink’s network. These elements are essential to ensuring the seamless integration of the battery into the grid, enhancing energy reliability and security.
The solution
Over the past 9 months, Enerven has worked with Atmos Renewables, Valo and Powerlink through an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to develop an optimal solution balancing technical excellence, reliability, time and cost.
Enerven’s delivery method emphasises involving local procurement and workforce in order to support regional economic development.
Enerven’s BoP scope includes the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of all works including:
-
- Site preparation and enabling works including local road upgrades, construction facilities.
- Civil works including bulk earthworks, drainage, roads and foundations.
- Electrical infrastructure including BESS integration, 275kV substation and circa 300m of 275kV overhead lines
Enerven will be working closely with Atmos Renewables, OEM supplier (Wartsillia) and Powerlink to ensure the safe and on time delivery of Teebar BESS.
