Enerven was appointed by Transgrid NSW to design and construct a 330/33kV substation, 330V Transmission line and 33kV switchbay at Eraring Substation to facilitate the connection of the BESS.

The opportunity

The Eraring project site is located just south of Newcastle in NSW. Enerven are designing and constructing a 330/33kV substation including switchgear and switchroom as well as the 330kV transmission line design and construction. This infrastructure facilitates the connection of the 700MW Eraring BESS. 


Built in 2 stages :​

  • Stage 1 – 570MW – 2023/24​
  • Stage 2 – 285MW – 2025/6​

The solution

Key specifications delivered by Enerven:  

  • Management of a multi-phase, large-scale construction project, ensuring seamless delivery across all stages.  
  • Design and construction of new Eraring BESS 330/33kV Substation, bay extension at existing 500/330kV switch yard including the install, termination and testing of high voltage equipment  
  • Supply, install and termination of secondary system and automation equipment  
  • Installation and testing of 330kV switchyard equipment  
  • Design and construction of 330kV transmission line, stringing and termination of 330kV conductor and OPGW  
  • All testing and commissioning work for successful energisation on time.
