Nexif Energy constructed a 154MW gas turbine peaking power plant located near Snapper Point at Outer Harbour on the Lefevre Peninsula about 22km north-west of Adelaide, South Australia. Enerven was ElectraNet’s Principal Contractor to construct the network connection assets connecting the plant to ElectraNet’s transmission network, known as the Snapper Point connection project.

The customer

ElectraNet delivers safe, affordable and reliable solutions to power South Australian homes and businesses. Their transmission network is a crucial part of the electricity supply chain and is used to safely deliver electricity throughout South Australia including regional and remote areas.

The opportunity

The Lincoln Gap Wind Farm, located in South Australia, is a 59-turbine, 212MW renewable energy project. To enhance the integration of the wind farm’s output into the NEM, Fluence tasked Enerven with installing a 10MW/10MWh lithium-ion BESS.

The battery system provides critical grid stability services, including:

Fast Frequency Response (FFR): Helping the wind farm meet interconnection requirements for renewable generation projects in South Australia
Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS): Delivering flexibility and stability directly into the NEM, which serves approximately 9 million customers across South Australia, Victoria, and other jurisdictions.

The solution

Key services delivered by Enerven:

relocate and re-establish the existing 275kV Engie connection at Pelican Point substation
design and construct a new 275kV connection point within an existing, unpopulated diameter at Pelican Point substation
design and construct the new 275/66/11kV Snapper Point substation. Snapper Point substation includes one 275kV Line Bay, two (2) 275/66/11kV Transformer Bays and two (2) 66kV Feeder bays
design and construct 400 metres of 275kV single-circuit overhead line connecting Pelican Point substation to Snapper Point substation.
