The opportunity

Following s severe storm in 2016 that brought down several transmission towers, ElectraNet identified the need to reinforce its infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future. Enerven was engaged to upgrade a 300-kilometre section of 275kV transmission line between the Para Substation and the Davenport Substation.

The project scope included:

  • strengthening transmission towers
  • replacing cross arms and extending tower waists
  • installing mid-span poles to enhance stability
  • performing all works on live lines using bare hand techniques to avoid disruptions to the power supply.
