As an Enerven Electrical Apprentice you will work on the high-voltage infrastructure that keeps power flowing across the state. Instead of installing power points or wiring houses, you’ll be working on the large-scale equipment (such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear and control systems) that controls and distributes electricity from power stations to the grid.
You will gain practical, hands-on experience working in substation construction and maintenance, renewable infrastructure construction, control systems installation and manufacture, all while completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.
The training you’ll receive will focus on network infrastructure, so although you’ll be eligible for an electrical worker’s licence allowing you to work on both domestic and commercial electrical installations, this is not the focus of the role.
A day in the life of electrical tradespeople working at Enerven could include:
- building and maintaining substations;
- installing and servicing circuit breakers, transformers and switching equipment;
- installing and maintaining systems for controlling the distribution network;
- performing high voltage switching on the distribution network;
- restoring electricity supply during emergencies;
- installing and maintaining metering and related equipment;
- troubleshooting and fixing faults on the distribution network; and
- connecting customers to the distribution network.
